石榴石又名“玉砂”或“天然金刚砂”，具有较强的硬度和很好的耐酸耐碱性，是一种岛状结构的铝（钙）硅酸盐，它色多优美，目前，经高纯磁选出的有灰、红、绿、白等多种染色体，是国外当前新开发的立体喷墙涂料，还是玻壳厂能做彩壳喷砂耐磨料，由于它内部化学分子多，化学稳定性好等特点。故被当作新型耐磨净水滤料。
